This was a thrilling read but, unfortunately, the characters (the main character, Lex, especially) just got on my nerves! A high level of arrogance is not my thing, ya’ll!
However, the story was so creepy and cool. A reality TV show putting five strangers together in a spooky spot for a night to see who lasts till morning. Except, in this case, things got way too real.
The Umber Gorges is a cave system that’s been locked up for years now because people who go in sometimes never come out. The local story is that the ghost named the puckered maiden steals their hearts and is even an object of some very strange town rituals.
Yes! Revenge against a cheating ex? Reality TV show? Sapphic romance? Yes, Please and Thank You.
This is such a fun read. It really had everything and more for a romance. This was completely unexpected and absolutely perfect.
Maya gets a phone call that at first seems like a practical joke. Go on a reality TV show to re-date her ex among other girls so the ex can choose the right girl for him? An ex that cheated on her and that she hates? And the girl he cheated on her with is going to be there too? Yes…. She grudgingly accepts not knowing the drama and surprises that await her.
This book is about revenge on that one person that holds a special place as the worst human ever. And, trust me, I have a few to choose from that I would love to serve up some revenge too! This is a girl power, friendships beat all, and whirlwind Sapphic romance that had me laughing and swooning.
OMG!!!! This. This. This. This is a thriller!!! This!! Forget what you think a good thriller is and just read this! As soon as possible. I thought my teeth were going to break bc I was clenching my jaw so hard, ya’ll! This is beyond…. I shall call it: a jawclenching, heart racing, thriller masterpiece.
Six people go on a road trip from Pennsylvania to the Gulf for spring break. Four of them are high school students and two are in college. One of the reasons they are in an RV to travel is because Red can’t really afford a plane ticket so her best friend Maddy planned this trip with that in mind. It’s a good group but there is immediate tension already because Maddy’s pre-law brother, Oliver, puts himself in charge. (It’s incredibly annoying).
When they arrive in South Carolina to stop for the night at a camp site, they get lost and wind up in the middle of nowhere. (And, as someone from SC, I can promise that getting lost in the middle of nowhere there is seriously the freaking middle of nowhere and it’s so scary, lol) . However, this seems to be no random just getting lost, especially when all the tires and the gas tank are shot out. There is a sniper in the woods. They communicate through a walkie talkie. And, the sniper wants to know a secret that only one of them can tell. But who is it? And, what is the secret?
This book is incredible. The author really illustrates how basic humanity can be lost and turned into something horrifying and ugly in a situation like this that is so frightening and puts a group in such a vulnerable position.
I am in love with love. Loved this Sapphic romance and amazing story and the fantasy! I haven’t read the first book but this was very easy to follow, almost like a stand-alone. I completely enjoyed every minute of this book!
The fantasy is unique with an interesting magic system including magicians, forseers, and mediums (even ghosts!). The story gave me a very Agatha Christie vibe. A whodunit with a cobbled together group of individuals solving the case and following the trail. What I loved most was the Sapphic romance between two of the characters. It was real, a bit smutty, just enough to make this whole story very rounded out and full. I think the romance along with the humor of some characters is what really made this perfect.
This was an intense, fast-paced read that brought a lot of attention to where our world could be heading but in a fantasy setting.
Three teenagers that live in NYC around the year 2080, I believe, are connected not just by shared history and nationality but because they have discovered they have powers. Nubians fled their homeland in this tumultuous future when global warming began massively affecting this planet. Now many live in a rough district of NYC while the rich live in the sky, literally (a city built in the sky).
This story covers some dense topics particularly global warming and class segregation. It shows how those with power may take advantage but offers hope with the Nubians being finally able to start fighting back. These three teens with powers are just the beginning as is this book. I’m looking forward to the sequel!
Talk about toxic!! Whew… this was a wild ride and it had my head spinning with the possibilities in this intense small town thriller.
I think this was the point, but I didn’t really like any of the characters. Plus, right from the start, the author throws the reader into the middle of one of the worst things that could happen at a party… or anytime, anywhere really.
When Jessica is ready to leave a huge summer party the TV suddenly turns on and she sits in horror watching her boyfriend hook up with her ex- best friend. This story continues with a missing persons case and much more. So be ready and hold on bc this does not slow down!
I’m a fan of C.J. Tudor and, of course, a big fan of horror. I was so excited when I found out this author was releasing a book of short horror stories. There is something so eloquent about good horror in small bites like this. This is a perfect genre for short stories.
One of my favorite things about this collection is the introductions to each story that let me peek into Tudor’s life and see how the author finds inspiration.
These were bone-chilling, unnerving and unsettling so of course I loved it! I definitely recommend picking this one up and enjoying on a dark night!
I fell in love with this cozy mystery immediately and I can’t wait to read more!
Snowy Colorado ski town, a wonderful book store Book Chalet, a crime solving cat, Italian hot cocoa… how could I not love this? It’s perfect for curling up by the fire or under a blanket with a hot drink. Especially if anyone knows how to make Italian hot cocoa because that sounds so good!
The Christie sisters have no real relation to Agatha Christie that they know of but they and their family have been huge fans for a while. Owning the best and only Book Chalet in this wintry wonderland little ski town puts them in the perfect position to solve a murder when one actually happens. The Christie family plus the other oddball citizens, who take their mysteries seriously, make the perfect team. And, did I mention this is just the most perfect of perfect chilly/rainy day reads??? Because yaaaas!
