City of Nightmares by Rebecca Schaeffer ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Ness lives in Newham, a city full of the monsters people change into if they have a nightmare.  Newham is really interesting,  it’s has a 1920s feeling and also practices prohibition and has many gangsters throughout the streets.  In other words,  it’s a perfect vibe for the city of nightmares.

This book has a surprising amount of depth to it. At least it was surprising to me.  Ness is terrified of nightmares, which,  unfortunately,  walk the streets here.  They are living with a cult like group so they can keep their tiny room and sense of safety.  However, when the lizard director threatens to kick them out, they wind up with a whole new set of problems.

I loved the whole vibe of this book.  Ness’s character is so relatable as are the side characters that are their friends.   I loved this read and can’t wait for the sequel!

Spice Road by Maiya Ibrahim ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!

Magic tea, a magic city and a book written so beautifully, it’s, guess what? MAGIC!!ยก!

Imira is a soldier, a Shield, in her kingdom of Sahir. Her brother has been presumed dead after having gone missing for a year. However, when Imira and her little sister chase their brothers’ horse to a cave one day, they find information and a Djinni that can lead them to their brother across the sands. This would be perfect, but when Imani brings this news and information to the council, she is paired with her arch-rival Taha and his fellow scouts.

I loved the author’s writing style, completely drawing me in and holding my interest from beginning to end. The magic system complimented the story and characters perfectly and seemed flawless. I am so excited that there will be a sequel!

The Drift by C.J. Tudor ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!

This ominous thriller definitely gave me some horror vibes along the way. Needless to say, I was not disappointed!

This is a terrifying story of the absolute worst-case scenario for our world dealing with a dangerous virus. This has the gore, the twists and turns, and a surprising ending that kept me on the edge of my seat!

There are three storylines in this book. All of which are equally interesting. Hannah finds herself waking on a coach that has crashed. Luckily, her knowledge as a medical student keeps her and the other survivors mostly alive. Meg wakes in a groggy state on a cable car with five others on their way to be test subjects. Carter is at The Retreat, or what is left of it, and is living with some strange roommates who all seem to have secrets.

Definitely a riveting thriller that I could not put down! Content Warnings for gore, death and murder.

The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!

This is an incredibly beautiful story of finding peace in the very far away future.

This story has three parts, all of which take place several hundred years from each other on a planet named Sask-E. It took me through one of the beginning stages for this world, and throughout the book, I could see the changes happening over a long period of time.

Terraformers is about just that, terraforming. This showed detailed processes to an incredibly eco-friendly world. It also showed the politics that take place surrounding the company owning this world, and then, creation of government for these people.

I thought this book was incredibly interesting and insightful about our world today and many of our challenges. However, it was a bit slow going for me. But, the whole picture this author presents is daring and beautiful, which left me feeling fulfilled as a reader.

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!!

This is the perfect romcom. Two characters working with themselves, through their own emotions, and Voila! True love! This has the angst, the humor, the romance and spice I needed for romcom bliss.

Georgie moves back home after being retired from her job as a Personal assistant in California with her screenwriter boss, she decides to take a long vacation. She is at once overwhelmed and underwhelmed by going back to small town life. At least, until she meets Levi Fanning.

One of my favorite parts of this story was Levi’s dog, Hank. Hank is a constant source of comic relief and loveable cuteness that cannot be ignored.. So, yeah. A perfect romcom with a cut doggie. I cannot ask for more!

A Guide to Being Just Friends by Sophie Sullivan ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!

This book practically defines “friends to lovers trope” to the extreme! A slow burn that was full to brimming with an amazing friendship between two individuals that finally turned into love.

I liked this read. Both of the main characters, Hailey and Wes, have their own baggage to work through. While both seem to think they are handling their fresh starts in California well, it turns out that when friendship turns to love, some of that baggage can resurface.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame by Meg Long ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!!

This is the sequel I have been waiting for!! And, everything about this story and its characters lived up to my expectations.

Remy is heading back to Maraas, with Sena and Iska in tow, to find her friend Alora. What she finds instead is her ex-partner, Kiram, and a world at the cusp of revolution!

The details about this planet are spectacular! I loved the jungle and stormy, muddy vibes, especially during the action scenes. Just like how on Tundra, the environment played a huge role in the character’s struggles.

All the characters were equally well formed and likeable (mostly). I loved seeing Iska in action on this world and getting a chance to meet more scavvers. However, Remy was everything in this book. She slowly learned more about herself and friendship while simultaneously fighting against the Corpos and taking every risk imaginable!

I highly recommend this series!

The Keeper’s Six by Kate Elliott ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!

I really loved this! It was a short read but still included all the depth of a full fantasy novel.

The inclusion in this story was great and made my heart so happy seeing this diverse cast of characters that I came to love. The idea for this is equally amazing, and I’d love to read more.

Esther is a Lantern. Part of a small team that travels the multiverse. Each person in the Hex has a specific talent, giving them their own important role. When Esther’s son, the Keeper, goes missing, she breaks suspension to find him. Along with the rest of the Hex, this results in a grand adventure.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!!

This has got to be the best book I’ve read in years. I mean, this author encapsulated not just faeries and magic, but seeing this brilliant world through a scholar’s eyes which is an absolute fantasy of mine.

Emily is a Dryadologist and is an expert on the Folk (Faeries). She has a very clinical mind so when she comes to a small and freezing cold country to study their Folk, she takes her duties seriously. Emily may understand the pursuit of knowledge, particularly Faerie knowledge, but she is not so good with human interactions. Thankfully, the ever graceful and handsome Wendell shows up to assist and although she may feel more competent on her own, Wendell seems to have the ability to offer some spectacular insights.

This is a Faerie story dream come true. When I had to put this book down (bc life), I was immediately looking forward to picking it back up. I simply could not stop thinking about this story and I am so so pleased that there is more to come!

Highly recommend for fans of fantasy!

The Things We Do To Our Friends by Heather Darwent ๐ŸŒŸ Arc Review ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!!

Shocked silence. Give me a moment. This was brilliant! From the prologue to the epilogue, this was fascinating. Just the constant feeling that something is off, that something is rotting, keeping me in an almost constant state of curiosity mixed with an unexplainable unease.

The prologue opens the story with a few snippets of a scene that was left unexplained for quite a while in the book but was never far from my mind due to its disturbing nature.

Claire is the MC, telling the story from her point of view. It begins with her starting University at Edinburgh and having a desire to meet not just any friends, but a certain type. This felt unhinged to me, the way her thought process around this worked. Of course, when she zeroes in on her targets she seems to effortlessly slip into their lives. Quickly she became a favorite of the groups ringleader, Tabitha, and Claire felt a new sense of self as she basked in the rays of Tabitha’s attention.

This all, of course, gets weird fast. Claire can’t figure out what is really going on. And, she seems to be keeping secrets of her own. But as the plot is revealed, everything seems to happen like a wave… a major high and a huge crash.

This was really intense for me. I felt surprised with where this went and the amount this book was able to disturb me. (Is it weird that I enjoyed being disturbed? I guess that’s a whole other topic, lol)

Definitely recommend this for fans of thrillers!
