This thrilling horror became darker and darker the more I read, and I was more than happy to devour this whole!

Marion lives in the southern part of this world in an area named Prane. This is one of those places where the exceedingly rich live in one part of town and the devastatingly poor in another, but both are neighbors. Marion breaks her back at work everyday as a maid, but the worst part is that she comes home to her violent brother. When she sees the blood red advert in the paper calling for possible new bloodmaids, she finally finds a way to escape from her current situation.

Bloodmaids are all beautiful women, but most importantly, their blood is used for the enjoyment of the elite Houses in the far North. Marion’s blood seems to taste divine to the taster and she soon becomes a member of the House of Hunger. However, what at first appears alluring and desirous begins to show a different side, a wretchedness. And, this is where the true horror lies.

Definitely recommend this to fans of horror!

This book has given me a way to touch on every emotion. I am so shocked by the ending and it’s so desperately sad and also profound. It’s amazing to think that this incredible journey through this book began with a new doctor at a chateau in the far North. She was looking at how the doctor she is replacing died… and it’s gruesome and the beginning of a parasite horror. This mixes old gothic feels with a new angle on scifi and also *content warning* a very strong and long look at trauma and sexual assault. But it’s done in such a sincere way that I really was right there feeling those same emotions.

This book is incredible! Remember the content warnings but I have to recommend this to fans of parasite horror and scifi!

This is a great new look on the haunted hospital up for renovations idea that is found in some other ghost stories. I really love the haunted hospital vibe because it offers so much for gruesome and intense horror which this book certainly has. Also, this story has a very unique take with these ghosts, how they affect their victims and where exactly they are from. All of this together gave me a very satisfying spooky read!

If you enjoy books by this author and intense ghost stories then this may be the perfect read for you!

After finishing this book, I read in the acknowledgements Malerman expressing that Daphne is a love letter to horror, to basketball, and also to anxiety. This made me really see how powerful this horror story is. It’s anxiety that the main character, Kit, deals with and it’s the ghost story of Daphne that really burrows in the girls basketball team’s minds which creates the reality of the horror itself. It’s the constant unwanted thoughts of this scary ghost, Daphne, that brings her to life to actually murder her victims.

This is brilliant horror. I felt like the writing is similar to Stephen King 80’s-90’s era which I love. I definitely recommend this to horror fans!

This was such a good Krampus story. I realized, while speaking with a friend, that Christmas horror isn’t as well known as I thought. I love the relationship between Christmas and horror particularly by bringing this feverishly happy time of year together with this genre which creates such a disconcerting effect.

This short tale pulled me along and had me leaning into the pages as if I would fall in. Starting with the group of friends brought together by similar states of loneliness during a few holiday seasons seeming easy yet also creepy in a way, along with the story of the main character’s past, there was barely time to catch my breath before plummeting into that brilliant ending.

Definitely recommend this for fans of horror!

This was a fantastic possession horror story that has suburbia, mom’s going day to day with children and the Pta super-moms all mixed in with it.

I loved the main character,  Amy.  I really related to her easy going style and her dedication to friends and family.  One night Amy and her friends get together, like usual, to have wine and watch a movie.  But, the next day, when friend Liz breaks ground for her new she shed things start heading from everyday suburban life to demonic suburban life.  And, this book does a great job of keeping the reader in both of those worlds at once.

I loved this book so much and I’m really hoping for a sequel!

This book was so good, the ending so so good, I wanted to just scream. Unfortunately, I can’t because I share this space with other people who would be very angry if I screamed over a book… instead of, you know, actually being in danger. Whatever. But, this book. This is an incredible new look on horror.

Vera was called home by her mother. A home she hasn’t been to in years because she was not welcome there. But, as her mother dies inside that house, Vera at last approaches her home and her past. Horror has often included grisly deaths, monsters under the bed and haunted houses, but never like this. If you are a fan of horror then I cannot recommend this enough.

I really enjoyed this read and for reasons more than just the horror aspect. Laurel is living and working on her family’s tobacco farm in Kentucky. She has a unique hobby of working with bones and an ability to read them in the sense that she can see the death of the owners of these bones. However, one day her bones walk away and she begins to understand the evil at work on her land.

While being a creepy read, especially the ending, I found the author’s look into grief and hopelessness really intriguing. Kilcoyne told this story with a bone jarring passion that cannot be ignored. I was lost in the author’s winding storytelling style and it felt amazing to be so wrapped up in a book that is so honest about how many new adult’s deal with change and decision making during difficult times. I definitely would say this is worth a read!

The author has a link on their book review on Goodreads for all the trigger warnings. There is abuse, violence and disturbing imagery in this, but check the link if you can because it’s more detailed. Also this list is available in the book.

I don’t believe I’ve ever read The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe but there is a large possibility I did when I was growing up and just can’t remember. (I loved Poe and any scary stories when I was growing up). This retelling, however, is something I will never forget. It began with the mystery of the situation and evolved into being truly horrifying.

Easton is a soldier and is visiting an old friend and their sister, Madeline, after receiving a letter calling for help. Soon Easton learns of Madeline’s sickness in the ancient House of Usher. However, there is a strangeness to this sickness and an even stranger quality to the hares in the surrounding countryside and the near lake. Soon it becomes clear that nothing in and surrounding the House of Usher is as it seems.

This story gave me chills and is going down as a new favorite horror story for me! I highly recommend this!

Witch 13 by Patrick Delaney! 🌟 Arc Review 🌟

Wow! This is pure horror with all the gore included! And, it has illustrations… which are seriously freaky! (I thank you for the nightmares but I need an eraser for my brain bc scary).

The plot really centers around a small town sheriff and her deputy on her last night on the job…. and, of course, the witch. There are several issues revolving around the sheriff and why she is leaving that make up part of the story. But, mainly, the focus goes to the witch and her tricks and treats on this Christmas-y night.

I did feel like the chapters jumped around a bit and that the ending was wanting but still a good horror read to check out.
