Lord of Shadows, The Dark Artifices book 2, by Cassandra Clare, A Short Review

This second book in the Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare had a fairly slow beginning and middle until almost the very end. I definitely had problems focusing and keeping my attention on reading this book. With that said, the ending is intense. I really can’t even decide how I feel about it besides partially devastated and maybe frustrated. This series really attempts to tackle some serious issues concerning mental health and different aspects to the LGBTQ community which only increases my love for Clare. I definitely suggest being patient with this series and trying to enjoy it, especially if you are a fan of the first two series in the Shadowhunter world.

WOW! The ending of The Nevernight Trilogy was incredible. I’m not going to give anything away, but I have to say this last book held quite a few amazing surprises. The thing I love about Mia that holds true to the end is her grip on being human. Or, to say it another way, her ability through all this rage and awful to not completely become a cold-hearted killer. She stays warm and real. She keeps part of herself soft instead of turning to stone. And I think that in and of itself is a great lesson for all of us.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, A Quick Review

This book, Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, lives up to its amazing cover art in every way. Gideon is a Cavalier teamed up with her Necromancer, Harrow, while they try to solve a puzzle and a murder mystery while living with the other 7 houses secluded in the lonely First planet. This book is morbid and witty and dreadfully fun. It is also going to serve as a constant reminder to me that I may not be the weirdest weirdo in the room! Yes, this book is so strange, especially the ending, but it’s weird in a good way… to me at least. I highly recommend this!

What a great start to The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare! The last line of the book, not the Epilogue, made me gasp a little. I couldn’t help it! I just… what? But? Omg! Too much and I cant handle it. This book was steeped in the importance and love of family, also romance for sure, but family more so really. The need to have that older sibling, fatherly or, for some, motherly figure. To have that wholeness as a unit, that togetherness that defines the Blackthorns as family. I thought this tale was beautifully told, exciting, had my heart racing at parts. I highly recommend this for fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare!

Crown of Bones by A.K. Wilder, A Review

First I want to say that I recieved this Advanced Readers Copy from Netgalley, which I’m very thankful for, and I read this voluntarily and my review is definitely my own thoughts on this great read. Now, let’s first talk about this beautiful cover! This drew me in and is a great representation of the vibe of this story. I was immediately immersed in Wilder’s world with the explosive beginning and it did not stop there. The story only became more exciting particularly because it was full of twists and turns that were completely unexpected. I also love this magic system, it is incredibly unique and has a very visual allure. The whole idea of calling a phantom that can take any shape with vivid colours was so amazing to read about. I highly suggest this and I must say, I want MORE!

Remnants of Atonement by G.P. McKenna, A Short Review

The main character of this book is Kilco, a spunky 16 year old female. Her mother is a doctor in the town they live in, a very good doctor who has a very bad attitude. However, when royalty comes calling her to be the leading physician in the kingdom everything changes for the doctor and Kilco. McKenna has created a really interesting world with some very diverse and intriguing types of people and creatures in it. I recommend this to anyone looking for an enjoyable read that comes with a side of quirkiness. I’d like to thank Netgalley for a copy of this ARC!

Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff, A Short Review

I’m not going to give away what happened in Nevernight and in this fabulous sequel, Godsgrave. I’m just going to say you can consider my mind blown! Kristoff has a way of tricking me into believing that I know what is going on and then completely flipping the story to what I least expect. This series is amazing, Mia Corvere is Amazing and I highly recommend this!

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, A Review

This dark and sometimes creepy, cold as a winter’s breath fairytale will satisfy all your needs for magic. This story pours slow like honey but is crisp as ice. If you can’t tell, I adored this book! It has a very classic feeling while still being new and fresh. I highly recommend this for everyone, even people who do not normally read fantasy. It’s the perfect book for a chilly or rainy day and a warm cup of tea!

Insurgent by Veronica Roth, A Short Review

I have to admit that rereading this about 8 years after the first time I read this series was a little frustrating.     Tris had so many opportunities to be honest and just reveal her issues and ideas to people, especially Four, and now that I’m older I was just really frustrated with her.  I suppose now in my life I have realized that being upfront and honest, in general,  makes everything so much easier.   It’s still a really fun and quick read though.  Although I had some frustrations, I still really enjoyed the story and the ending kind of makes up for my minor dilemmas.

This was incredible. This book stabbed all my expectations in the eyes, buried them and then blew my mind with a story and an ending that was impossible for me to see coming. I need a brain vacation after this insane but rapturous journey. Mia has everything taken from her but that is not her ending, it is a beginning to a life of vengeance. She can fight like a demon of shadow but she holds on to her soul. Read at your own risk, this is a wild ride!
