Babel by R.F. Kuang 🌟Arc Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!

This is one of those books that while reading I become fascinated and inspired by the genius of a mind that is behind this writing. I want to be in this story just as this story is in me now and always will be. And as a student, I want more knowledge. Like I said, inspiring. The magic of language.

Robin Swift was born in Canton, China. He lived there long enough to know the language easily and then, when he was about to die from a sickness, he was moved to England by a man promising him the world. He learned Greek and Latin while studying his own language, Chinese. In doing all this, he became prepared for a life at Oxford at the school for translation. Where language is not just studied, but used to change the world.

This is the best Dark Academia I have ever witnessed. Along with a dangerous secret society and a world on the cusp of revolution. I loved this book and I cannot recommend this enough!

A Broken Blade by Melissa Blair 🌟 ARC Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!

I was cautious going into this one because of all the hype on social media but I found this to be absolutely deserving of some hype!

This story has everything. A broody assassin who is drowning her pain in alcohol. She is not as heartless as she seems. Her job may be to kill as the king’s Blade, but she can’t let go of any death she causes. Mix this in with another broody persona, known as the Shadow, who has a price on his head and we have an amazing book ya’ll!!!

There is deception. There is suspence. And, throughout it all, romance!! I highly recommend this to fans of fantasy!

The Couple at Number 9 by Claire Douglas 🌟Arc Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!

I love a good thriller and this was no exception. The story is great, love multiple Pov’s, however this was a little too slow moving for me. I feel like there was too much information and that I would have enjoyed this more if it had a quicker pace.

I loved the characters, Theo, Saffy, Lorna and Rose. I also thought the twist at the end was great, really intense!

Don’t Go to Sleep by Bryce Moore 🌟 ARC Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!

The suspence in this just keeps building until it crashes like a wave. So, yeah… I thought this was brilliant.

Based on true events, this story follows jazz loving Gia around her hometown of New Orleans in the time of WWl and the influenza hitting America. This is an incredibly interesting time period full of drama already, but with the addition of an axe murderer set on destroying Italian-American lives, this story had me quickly turning the pages.

I cannot recommend this enough to fans of thrillers. Gia’s character, along with Enzo, being young and in love with life and yet haunted by their pasts and these new murders, really made this story so unique.

What a beautiful story!!! I am enthralled by this magical and romantic tale!

I loved the connection between magic and nature, especially with the animals. The enemies to lovers romance made this book for me. I really just adored this story and I can’t recommend it enough!

The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia 🌟 ARC Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!

This is another remarkable read by Silvia Moreno-Garcia! If the authors name doesn’t catch your attention then maybe the title will; The Daughter of Dr. Moreau. How does this not leap out and beg to be read and enjoyed? As soon as I saw this book, especially with such a beautiful cover, I was on it… And it did not disappoint!

Carlota is the only child of Dr. Moreau and leads a simple but elegant life on their property of Yuxaktan. Among the hybrids and beautiful plant life lies secrets that even she cannot guess at. When a rich and powerful young man comes seeking her attention this acts as a catalyst for life changing events.

I highly recommend this as a gorgeous and beautifully told story that I was lucky enough to luxuriate in

Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey 🌟 ARC Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!

This book was so good, the ending so so good, I wanted to just scream. Unfortunately, I can’t because I share this space with other people who would be very angry if I screamed over a book… instead of, you know, actually being in danger. Whatever. But, this book. This is an incredible new look on horror.

Vera was called home by her mother. A home she hasn’t been to in years because she was not welcome there. But, as her mother dies inside that house, Vera at last approaches her home and her past. Horror has often included grisly deaths, monsters under the bed and haunted houses, but never like this. If you are a fan of horror then I cannot recommend this enough.

Bookish thoughts…

Pictured is the book Kaikeyi by Vaisnavi Patel. I loved this story. Gorgeous retelling and what really caught my attention was not only the look at the gods and goddesses but many mythical stories about them.

So, I joined BOTM in March because I felt like it was a really inexpensive and easy way to get books. However, the prices have risen in this short amount of time! It’s not that big of a deal but it’s getting closer to what I would pay for a nice new copy at the bookstore. And, while it’s great to buy new releases, I personally feel like I would rather spend the money on just the new releases that I’ve been looking forward to. Which, are not usually in BOTM. So, I canceled. And, that is my story of the short period I was a member.

Current Reads

These are my current reads. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix and A Shadow In the Glass by Jia Harwood. I’m loving these and can’t wait to tell you more!

August Kitko and the Mechas from Space by Alex White 🌟 Arc Review🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!

This was a blast! I mean, the end of humankind… but, wait! We are saved by music and the sweetest guy on earth and an amazing robot (with a sword!!!). This story has everything; Action, drama for days, a beautiful understanding of music and emotional connections, and love. This is a psychedelic masterpiece that has the kind heart and compassion that truly is world-saving. A thrilling and fantastic read!

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke 🌟 ARC Review 🌟

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!

I’m just going to say it: This is a must-read for thriller lovers!!! It was more than just a thriller while keeping me on the edge of my seat and guessing at every new chapter.

Six friends go on a hen weekend to celebrate a bride to be in a beautiful villa on the gorgeous seaside cliffs of Greece. However, they have no idea what is in store for them. What each singular person brings as her past, her present, her future, that can bring about all kinds of drama when they learn of each other’s secrets.

I loved the emotion in this book. I was so suspicious of every character. Sometimes hating them but then there would be a twist and I could somehow relate. And, then, that ending!! It’s brilliant. And, I want to add that the last line in the book was the absolute perfect ending.

Highly recommend!
