Winter, White and Wicked by Shannon Dittemore is a fast-paced, thrill ride through a land that is permanently stuck in Winter. The main character, Sylvi, is coerced into driving her rig along with a few companions to find a friend that has joined the rebel cause. Winter is not simply just a season in this book, the land and it’s people are ruled by winter and the kol that is produced. However, the kol that is destroying the people can also be used to control winter and force this overwhelming season into submission and Sylvi knows more about this than she likes to admit.
This story was definitely very exciting and fun to read. There is a balance in the magic used in this story, consequences for controlling winter that causes frostbite particularly around the mouth and lip, which honestly was a little strange to read about. This tale is unique and full of intricate myths and legends that breathe life into the peoples of this land.
I would recommend this if your looking for something that is not heavy on romance and that is very different than the norm.
